EnCorps is committed to serving retirees throughout the State of California and making sure that our teachers receive the support they need to be successful. Our ideal school district has characteristics including:
• over 50% Free and Reduced Lunch students
• a solid preparation and induction program
• a solid new teacher support system.
EnCorps’s rigorous selection process is based on a school district’s commitment to success for both new teachers and EnCorps’s new teacher program. We recognize that not all of our moderate to high poverty districts will meet the rigorous teacher support standards required by EnCorps. Therefore, EnCorps works with both Partner and Affiliate districts. A Partner District is a district that meets all or most of the rigorous criteria that EnCorps requires, including a proven programs for new teacher support and development, a culture of teacher support, a guarantee to place a set number of teachers for 2008 and geographic proximity to our key corporate partners. EnCorps provides supplementary supports to all teachers in Partner and Affiliate districts.
An Affiliate District meets some although not all of EnCorps’s criteria and is willing to work with EnCorps to develop programs that could move them to Partner in future years. EnCorps fills Partner District spaces initially and provides candidates to be reviewed by Affiliate Districts if there is a strong fit between the interests of the school and the interests and abilities of the teacher. Our Affiliate program allows EnCorps to develop a pipeline of District Partners over time and allows EnCorps to assess fit with a school district using real case by case experience.
