What are the principle themes for Boot Camp 2009?
• Lesson Planning for Student Achievement
• Managing an Effective Classroom
All of the agenda items this year will relate back to these themes. Please note that these are also two of the main issues we hear from hiring principals as being important to them in their recruiting decisions.
Why does EnCorps host Boot Camp each year?
EnCorps’ knows that the best time to understand what it means to be a teacher is well ahead of the day you arrive in a classroom. Boot Camp is a major component of this experience and is EnCorps’ prime development event for professionals transitioning into teaching.
Note: If you have signed your Offer Letter, this is a required event.
How does Boot Camp fit into my overall Teacher Preparation program at EnCorps?
Boot Camp is staged each summer to prepare Pioneers as they plan for their first teaching experiences in the Fall of that year. This includes both Substitute and Full Time teaching experiences.
In addition, Boot Camp complements the University or district credentialing programs that EnCorps Pioneer join as they become Full Time teachers.
Who are the Teacher Experts that will lead the agenda?
EnCorps brings in experienced teachers from the New Teacher Center to help you build your Career Pathways.
The New Teacher Center and EnCorps have created a unique agenda specifically for the EnCorps teacher experience.
Why is there only one central Boot Camp in California?
Part of the experience of EnCorps is the esprit des corps from interacting with your peers. This mirrors the experience of how successful teachers work together in the education world. As the number of EnCorps teacher pioneers continues to rise, our need to get to know each other across the state becomes more important.
What are the Registration Fees?
- Open House, June 5: Register by May 1st and only pay $105/person! After May 1st registration is $155.
- EnCorps Pioneers*: Registration is free. Register by May 1 and enter in the lottery for a single room!
*EnCorps must have received your signed Offer Letter to be considered an EnCorps Pioneer!
Why is there a cost for the Boot Camp Open House?
In the past, the Boot Camp was only available to people who had gone through the interview process and accepted an offer with EnCorps. This year we have created a special day in our 3-day Boot Camp to make our program available to people who are excited about education and teaching, but not yet a part of the EnCorps program.
However as our core focus is supporting EnCorps teachers, we need to cover our event costs. The registration for the Boot Camp Open House makes it possible for non-pioneers to attend, but does not create an undue burden for EnCorps. The day will include workshops, panels and a gala dinner to celebrate the 2 year anniversary of when EnCorps was launched by Gov. Schwarzenegger.
Take this low-cost opportunity to explore a new career in teaching. You have the experience, you have the desire, now discover why you want to teach! Special agendas have been set up just for you.
