 3-Day Boot Camp Logistics

*PLEASE NOTE: This is for EnCorps Pioneers who are attending the 3-day Boot Camp.

If I am flying in, what airport should I plan to use when I arrive?

Please plan to fly into LAX.   While EnCorps endorses no specific airline, there have been $49/person special rates between the SF Bay area and LAX on Virgin America.

Boot Camp will start at 10am on June 5 and end at 4pm on June 7. Please plan flight schedules accordingly.

How should I plan for transportation to/from the event at USC?

Plan to use the SuperShuttle or similar systems.  From the Super Shuttle web site:

LAX - Claim your luggage, proceed outside and look for the orange “Shared Ride Van” sign located on the outer island. For SuperShuttle, contact the Guest Service Representatives dressed in a blue SuperShuttle uniform and they will assist with your transportation needs.

*If you are an EnCorps Pioneer, we recommend you use the www.fmyi.com site to coordinate rides to/from the airport.

How much will it cost?

Contact SuperShuttle for rates.

What kind of overnight accommodations should I plan for?

Much like our Back to School theme this year, you will be staying in the Dorms at USC.  Arrangements are 2 Pioneers to a dorm room; however, you may arrange for a single occupancy room for an additional $105 for both nights.

Early Arrival: You may make arrangements to stay the night before for an additional fee.

Do I have to stay in the dorms?

We strongly encourage all EnCorps participants to stay in the dorms, even if you live in Los Angeles. If you need to make special arrangements, please contact us as soon as possible.

I am traveling from Northern California. Can EnCorps help with travel costs?

Yes! If you live more than 300 miles from Los Angeles, we can reimburse your travel expenses up to $100. You must be able to provide receipts with proof of payment

What do I have to do to prepare for the Boot Camp events?

We suggest reading the following book:

•    “Teach Like Your Hair’s On Fire”, by Rafe Esquith, Penguin Books
•    “Tools for Teaching”, by Fred Jones,

You will receive specific pre-work in early May to be completed prior to your arrival.

What do I need to bring with me?

Yourself!  Pen, paper, and a computer will likely be helpful but the most important aspect is an open mind prepared to explore your new career in teaching.

Are there dinners or other evening activities I need to plan for?

Yes!  Friday, June 5th is our Back to School Teacher Celebration.  Held on the USC campus, you should plan for Business Dress at this event.
